Church Potluck Dill Pickle Dip

The creamy, tangy, bacon-loaded pickle dip that's been going viral — and has been showing up at church potlucks for longer than the internet's been around. Five ingredients, ten minutes, and it never comes home with leftovers.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup dill pickles drained well and finely chopped
  • 1-2 tbsp pickle juice from the jar
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix 1 oz
  • 5 slices bacon cooked crispy and crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese sharp, optional but recommended
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the bacon until crispy, then crumble or chop it into small pieces. Set aside.
  2. Beat the cream cheese and sour cream together until smooth and creamy. No lumps — take your time with this.
  3. Finely chop the dill pickles and add them to the cream cheese mixture along with 1-2 tablespoons of pickle juice (start with 1, add more to taste). Stir in the ranch seasoning.
  4. Fold in the crumbled bacon, shredded cheddar, and fresh dill. Mix until everything is evenly distributed.
  5. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour — the flavors need time to come together. It's even better the next day.
  6. Serve cold with ruffled potato chips, crackers, or celery sticks. Garnish with a pickle slice and a sprinkle of fresh dill on top.

Recipe Notes

Make ahead: This dip is actually better the next day. Make it up to 48 hours ahead and refrigerate. Add the bacon garnish just before serving so it stays crispy.

No pork version: Skip the bacon. Add a pinch of smoked paprika for a hint of that smoky flavor.

Nana Ruth's version: Just cream cheese, pickles, and pickle juice on Ritz crackers. No ranch, no bacon, no cheddar. Sometimes simple is perfect.

Feeds a crowd: Double the recipe for a party of 20+. Use a 9x13 dish and let people dig in.
